Dancing Strings Festival
Marmoucha Orchestra ft. diverse artiesten
'Dancing strings' stands for all the different stringed instruments worldwide, focusing on the age-old plucked instrument the 'ud - as a solo instrument but also as an integral part of various line-ups with stringed instruments from different cultures. In addition to the 'ud, the third edition of the festival focuses on related instruments such as sentir, mandole and laouto.
The festival's programme consists of five parts each evening. There is a special setting with new compositions by three Dutch composers of partly Moroccan origin who create works for stringed instruments such as 'ud, mandole and laouto: Kamal Hors, Michiel Hollanders and Mohamed Ahaddaf. For each composer, three new works will be performed, in addition to three works by Aziz Sahmaoui in a special arrangement. Performers will be the composers together with the Marmoucha Orchestra. The second part of the programme focuses on musician Aziz Sahmaoui, known from University of Gnawa. His new, more classically inclined programme Il fera beau demain jusqu'à midi stems from a meeting with jazz cellist Eric Longsworth. The harmonic sound of the cello, the groove of the mandole and the sentir together with the dynamics of the percussion bring a sound full of emotions and variations. As a grand finale, all participating musicians play a work by Sahmaoui together.
