Women of Maluku - Ode to Martha Christina Tiahahu
Studio HAINUWELE & Celeste Mercedes Engel, Gloria Lappya, Tiga Batang Rumah, Moya Wenno, Ida Kakisina en Jessica Manuputty
Third and fourth generation Moluccan female artists explore their identity and roots by retrieving stories of their ancestors and role models from Moluccan history. Inspired by Moluccan freedom fighter and resistance heroine Martha Christina Tiahahu (04.01.1800 - 02.01.1818), they pay tribute.
Various musicians, storytellers, dancers and spoken word artists share Martha Christina's story and connect it with their own perspectives on hope, courage, strength and the struggle for freedom and justice. A warm and intimate evening filled with music, spoken word, dance and storytelling.
Host: Ida Kakisina
Musicians and artists: Tiga Batang Rumah (tifa), Gloria Lappya (spoken word), Celeste Mercedes Engel and ensemble (music), Moya Wenno (dance) and Jessica Manuputty (music).
Studio HAINUWELE
Studio HAINUWELE organises (temporary) exhibitions with cultural programmes focusing on the identity and heritage of the Moluccan community. Artists, creatives and culture carriers connected to HAINUWELE use the pop-ups as a platform to present their art and as an interactive space to explore and exchange (ancestral) cultural practices with each other.
