The Wet’suwet’en people never relinquished their land to the Canadian authorities and they live according to their own laws. They refuse to grant  permission for planned oil and gas pipelines running through their stunningly beautiful homelands. Yintah is the gripping account of their years of struggle, leading to escalating confrontations as the oil companies won’t take no for an answer. The film also devotes plenty of time to becoming better acquainted with Wet’suwet’en culture, daily life and history. The traumas caused by colonialism are immense, and the community is working hard to recover. This makes it all the more painful that the oil companies are out to crush their rights once again—with the support of the government and police. The opposition is led by two indefatigable women who draw upon the strength of their ancestors to protect their lands. Yintah was created in close consultation with the Wet’suwet’en people. Two of the three filmmakers are related to the protagonists.
