A captivating exploration through the physical and mental struggle of burnout
In his solo show Fatigue, Viktor Szeri completely surrenders to exhaustion, as a mirror of burnout, the disease of our time. After a subtle start, the dance quickly develops into a hypnotising visual explosion at the intersection of club culture and performance.
In a world where work is often seen as the measure of happiness and success, non-stop performance seems to be the only way to advance. But what happens when you actually reach a point where you feel completely drained? When you run out of energy and your body and mind are no longer in sync?
The solo show Fatigue is a poignant confrontation with the devastating consequences of burnout, like an inescapable shadow that gives spectators an inkling how narrow the line is between carrying on and suffering a complete burn out. With a dynamic that shifts between slow, deliberate movements and lightning-fast outbursts, Viktor Szeri shows how exhaustion not only weakens the body but also undermines the mind and the creative process. The spectator is drawn into an oppressive universe that is anchored in both club culture and performance art.
Fatigue exposes the raw reality of exhaustion but transforms that pain into something unexpectedly powerful. The inescapable rhythm of life becomes tangible, while the artistic performance balances between oppression and liberation. Szeri allows the audience to experience not only the threat of exhaustion, but also the resilience that can arise from it.
Viktor Szeri (1993) is a dancer and choreographer from Budapest who was selected as one of Aerowaves Twenty24 artists. His solo show Fatigue won the prestigious Rudolf Lábán Award in 2023. Szeri's work is a mix of dance and visual art, with improvisation as its foundation. He pursues the notion that dance is a language in which the vulnerable, transient body breaks free from social norms. His groundbreaking performances draw the audience into compelling, yet at the same time intimate worlds.
Please note: Strobe lights and a hazer will be used during the performance.
